All portraits created from these songs co-exist in their own worlds. From the messaging in ‘GYPSY, BC’ where Benjamin re-affirms his beliefs, to the complexities of love shown in ‘Reccomence’ - all of these stories in their silos have been meshed together and anchored through the ‘silent interview’. Poignant, as this acts as a breather between the songs, allowing us to take in the questions as well as non-conventional responses Benjamin has to them.
Filming in 35mm, allowed us to ensure that most of the takes were shot in one. This created special moments of improvisation, giving freedom to the movement artists, and brought out a visceral level of authenticity in Benjamin’s performance.
